title: In Time with You

author: Kristin Dwyer

publisher: Wednesday Books

publication date: March 24, 2026

pages: 384

peppers: 3 (on this scale)

warnings:

  • death by drowning
  • near death by drowning
  • funerals
  • alcohol use
  • death of an animal

summary: It's hard for me to tell too much about this one without giving it away, but Nieve starts the book at the funeral of her boyfriend Carter, who died trying to save her from drowning. She's a mess with missing him and feeling guilty, a feeling that isn't helped by Carter's best friend Max, who makes it clear that he knows Nieve is to blame for Carter's death.

tropes:

  • enemies-to-lovers
  • lost love
  • with the wrong guy
  • it's all my fault
  • raised by grandma
  • absentee parents
  • getting a second chance

what I liked:

  • Nieve's interior monologue
  • the grandmother
  • art scenes/understanding of artists
  • friends
  • family
  • sheep

what I didn’t like:

  •  some of the flashback moments

overall rating: 4 (of 5 stars)

WHAT I DO

I serve as a class dean and teach English to high schoolers at a boarding school in Connecticut. I’ve earned a Bachelor of Arts (Amherst College), an Education Master in Learning and Teaching (Harvard University Graduate School of Education), a Master of Arts in English (Bread Loaf School of English), and most recently a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a certificate in the online teaching of writing (Southern New Hampshire University).

As a writer, I hope to capture the complexity and joy of life in the New England boarding school world. On this site, I share what I know about trying to write fiction while deaning, teaching English, coaching, and doing the other tasks associated with helping to raise over six hundred other people’s children.
