title: Destination Weddings and Other Disasters

author: M. C. Vaughan

publisher: Afterglow Books by Harlequin

publication date: July 1, 2025

pages: 288

peppers: 3 (on this scale)

warnings: bullying, deceased parent (past)

summary: After Julia earns her graduate degree in hospitality but before she finds a job, her flighty mother announces her plan to get married a week later in Belize. She asks Julia to plan the wedding with her fiancé's son, who turns out to be none other than Carson, the guy who treated her poorly when she was his tutor during high school. Fortunately, he seems to have changed for the better, but that doesn't mean she can trust him, can she?

tropes:

  • enemies-to-lovers
  • high school crush
  • surprise weddings
  • only one room
  • he notices (Book Boyfriend)

what I liked:

  • good banter
  • felt like a sightseeing tour of Belize
  • being smart and organized as a turn-on

what I didn’t like: none of it

overall rating: 5 (of 5 stars)

WHAT I DO

I serve as a class dean and teach English to high schoolers at a boarding school in Connecticut. I’ve earned a Bachelor of Arts (Amherst College), an Education Master in Learning and Teaching (Harvard University Graduate School of Education), a Master of Arts in English (Bread Loaf School of English), and most recently a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a certificate in the online teaching of writing (Southern New Hampshire University).

As a writer, I hope to capture the complexity and joy of life in the New England boarding school world. On this site, I share what I know about trying to write fiction while deaning, teaching English, coaching, and doing the other tasks associated with helping to raise over six hundred other people’s children.
