title: My Best French Wedding

author: Amanda Sellet

publisher: St. Martin's Griffin

publication date: August 11, 2026

pages: 320

peppers: 2 (on this scale)

warnings:

  • parental abandonment (past)
  • smoking
  • alcohol use

summary: Hildy and Walter have been competitor journalists on the wedding beat for the last ten years, since they met at a high school journalism program, where they hit it off, at first. Now, they've both got their sights set on writing the exclusive story of the wedding of the century, a week-long event in France. The dual timeline shows both what's going on during the week of the big event and, in reverse chronological order, how they got to where they are now.

tropes:

  • rivals-to-lovers
  • second-chance romance
  • misunderstandings
  • secret pining
  • fighting for the same job
  • lavish wedding events
  • everyone can see it but them

what I liked:

  • great banter
  • fun bride and groom
  • clever dual timeline
  • clever best friend
  • sassy voice

what I didn’t like:

  • n/a

overall rating: 5 (of 5 stars)

WHAT I DO

I serve as a class dean and teach English to high schoolers at a boarding school in Connecticut. I’ve earned a Bachelor of Arts (Amherst College), an Education Master in Learning and Teaching (Harvard University Graduate School of Education), a Master of Arts in English (Bread Loaf School of English), and most recently a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a certificate in the online teaching of writing (Southern New Hampshire University).

As a writer, I hope to capture the complexity and joy of life in the New England boarding school world. On this site, I share what I know about trying to write fiction while deaning, teaching English, coaching, and doing the other tasks associated with helping to raise over six hundred other people’s children.
