title: How to Find a Guy in Five Weddings

author: Cynthia Timoti

publisher: Branble

publication date: May 12, 2026

pages: 320

peppers: 2.5 (on this scale)

warnings:

  • grandparental death (past) and illness/hospitalization (present)
  • cheating fiancé
  • controlling parents

summary: Kim, who's had no luck at all with online dating, needs to find a significant other to meet the stipulation in her grandmother's will to inherit her grandmother's yarn store. Rob, who's a friend of a friend with lots of weddings to attend and an ex her doesn't want to appear alone near, volunteers to trade his matchmaking services for Kim's serving as his plus one to all of the weddings.

tropes:

  • matchmaking
  • absentee parents
  • big family-only child
  • big company-small business
  • saving the family legacy
  • I don't even believe in love

what I liked:

  • the weddings
  • Rob's family
  • Rob is a truly good human
  • They see each other's flaws and fall anyway

what I didn’t like:

  • both main characters' fathers seem unbelievably bad
  • I didn't entirely believe her arc from "I don't think love exists" to "I'm totally in love with him"

overall rating: 3 (of 5 stars)

WHAT I DO

I serve as a class dean and teach English to high schoolers at a boarding school in Connecticut. I’ve earned a Bachelor of Arts (Amherst College), an Education Master in Learning and Teaching (Harvard University Graduate School of Education), a Master of Arts in English (Bread Loaf School of English), and most recently a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a certificate in the online teaching of writing (Southern New Hampshire University).

As a writer, I hope to capture the complexity and joy of life in the New England boarding school world. On this site, I share what I know about trying to write fiction while deaning, teaching English, coaching, and doing the other tasks associated with helping to raise over six hundred other people’s children.
