title: Pucking Enemies

author: Katie Strong

publisher: Kindle

publication date: July 30, 2025

pages: not sure, on my Kindle app, it says 401 pages, but it didn't feel nearly that long

peppers: 3 (on this scale)

warnings: alcohol abuse, vomit

summary: Rylee is thrilled to be hired not only as the photographer but also as the writer for a two-article series on the Denver Night Hawks professional ice hockey team. She's surprised to find out that her friend Grace's husband told his teammate Zander that he could stay in the apartment Grace told Rylee she could use. Even worse, Zander and Rylee hooked up at another friend's wedding, but Zander left and ghosted Rylee before she even woke up.

tropes:

  • forced proximity
  • mistaken identity
  • second-chance romance
  • online dating
  • enemies-to-lovers

what I liked:

  • Even though I knew what was coming, the writing made this a fun ride
  • Good teammate banter
  • Women who appreciate sports
  • Family dynamics

what I didn’t like:

  • Female main character jumped to conclusions too often

overall rating: 4 (of 5 stars)

WHAT I DO

I serve as a class dean and teach English to high schoolers at a boarding school in Connecticut. I’ve earned a Bachelor of Arts (Amherst College), an Education Master in Learning and Teaching (Harvard University Graduate School of Education), a Master of Arts in English (Bread Loaf School of English), and most recently a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a certificate in the online teaching of writing (Southern New Hampshire University).

As a writer, I hope to capture the complexity and joy of life in the New England boarding school world. On this site, I share what I know about trying to write fiction while deaning, teaching English, coaching, and doing the other tasks associated with helping to raise over six hundred other people’s children.
