NetGalley Review of Maid of Dishonor

Maid of Dishonor by Gracie Ruth Mitchell (291 pages, independently published, coming out 28 March 2023): This was a fun, one-pepper book. She's on the baseball team and has been pining for her best friend since high school; he's a baseball coach who doesn't want love because he's seen what its aftermath has done to his father.

If you want warnings for things you might not like, there's lots of vomit in this one (both morning sickness and sympathetic puking).

The tropes:

  • best friends to lovers
  • unplanned pregnancy (not in the main couple)
  • girl who thinks she's not hot when everyone else can see she's hot
  • boy with a big ego and a heart of gold
  • parent issues (one mom in rehab facility after car crash, the other deceased)
  • boy who says he's never going to fall in love even though he's already pining for girl

Those are the biggies. The main characters seem young, but I enjoyed their voices. Your thoughts? Will you read this book?

Overall: 3 of 5 stars

Nice concise summary (guessing by a non reader of the book). Seems, at One Pepper, might be a good introduction to the genre. As a slow reader, knowing how many pages a book has gives approximate warning, although font size etc can differ in material ways.

Oh, that’s a great suggestion. I’ll add length to my reviews from now on. Thanks!

I like reading your reviews. Do be sure to add the publisher and imprint for each! (Both for credit to the publishing house, but also people may start to notice which imprints publish books they like).

Thanks. I’ve gone back and added publishing houses. I don’t know if I know how to find imprint information, but I’ll keep an eye out if they approve me for more books.
