NOVELS, in progress

  • Jordan Crossed: a Young Adult novel that follows Sophia Prose, a bookworm who sees those around her as characters in the novels she has read, through her first year at prestigious Academy for Literary Studies, a CT boarding school;
  • Mac Daddy: a Young Adult retelling of Shakespeare's Macbeth. This book follows Mac, an ambitious jock who decides to fulfil his prophesy of becoming prom king;
  • You Had Me at Synecdoche: After leaving a failed relationship at one boarding school, Elinor decides to focus on her career at a new boarding school. This romance shows that love finds us when we're not looking for it;
  • Sequel to You Had Me at Synecdoche;
  • The Omnipotent Narrator: This humorous book for all ages illustrates the many ways the person speaking creates the story; and
  • Something There Is: This Young Adult fantasy imagines a post-walled world.

SHORTER WORKS:

  • Student essays, graded daily

WHAT I DO

I teach English to high schoolers at a boarding school in Connecticut. I read AP English Literature and Composition exams and serve as a teacher mentor for the University of Pennsylvania Teaching Fellows program. I’ve earned a Bachelor of Arts (Amherst College), an Education Master in Learning and Teaching (Harvard University Graduate School of Education), a Master of Arts in English (Bread Loaf School of English), and most recently a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a certificate in the online teaching of writing (Southern New Hampshire University).

As a writer, I hope to capture the complexity and joy of life in the New England boarding school world. On this site, I share what I know about trying to write fiction while teaching English, coaching, and doing the other tasks associated with helping to raise over six hundred other people’s children.
